Chondrus crispus, also known as Irish Moss, is a type of red algae that grows along the rocky coasts of the North Atlantic. Though often overlooked, this incredible seaweed has been a staple in traditional remedies and food cultures for centuries. Today, it's making a well-deserved comeback as a powerful superfood, rich in essential nutrients that support our health in many ways. MAKING IRISH SEAMOSS GEL!!!!!!

Started with a US grown USDA Organic dry sea moss. This particular brand only carries Chondrus crispus seasonally and ships fast and fresh! From this one-pound bag I can make at least 20 32oz jars of sea moss and only cost me $50.00. Make sure once it has been opened to store in a dry airtight container. expiration date is also provided on the front of the package.

Health Benefits of Chondrus Crispus

1. Nutritional Powerhouse

Chondrus crispus is loaded with essential nutrients, making it a versatile addition to your wellness routine. It's packed with vitamins A, C, E, K, and B-complex vitamins like B2, B6, and B12. Additionally, it boasts an impressive mineral profile, providing calcium, magnesium, potassium, phosphorus, selenium, zinc, and iron—all vital for maintaining overall health. Its antioxidant properties also help reduce oxidative stress, promoting a healthy balance in the body.

2. Digestive Health

Irish Moss contains mucilage, a sticky substance that soothes the digestive tract and helps alleviate conditions like acid reflux, ulcers, and gastritis. Its prebiotic fiber nourishes the beneficial bacteria in the gut, helping create a balanced microbiome. Moreover, it supports detoxification by binding to heavy metals and other toxins in the gut, aiding in their elimination.

3. Immune System Support

The carrageenan found in Chondrus crispus has antiviral properties, making it effective against viruses such as influenza and herpes. In addition, the wide range of vitamins and minerals found in this seaweed supports the immune system, helping it fight off illnesses and maintain overall health.

STEPS:

Rinse sea moss as many times as you can stand with spring water and soak in a spring water bath overnight with citrus of your choice! (usually, I use Key Limes but couldn't find anything in season).

4. Skin Health

Chondrus crispus is not just beneficial when ingested—it's also a valuable addition to your skincare routine. Its high-water retention capacity keeps the skin hydrated and helps maintain elasticity. Additionally, its anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties can reduce acne, eczema, psoriasis, and signs of aging, making it a popular ingredient in natural skincare products.

5. Respiratory Health

For generations, Irish Moss has been used to treat respiratory conditions. Its mucilage content helps break down mucus in the respiratory tract, making it easier to expel. This makes it an excellent natural remedy for coughs, colds, bronchitis, and even pneumonia.

6. Thyroid Support

Chondrus crispus is rich in iodine, which is essential for thyroid hormone production. Proper thyroid function is crucial for regulating metabolism, growth, and energy levels. Incorporating Irish Moss into your diet can help prevent iodine deficiency and support optimal thyroid health.

7. Joint and Bone Health

Thanks to its high calcium and magnesium content, Chondrus crispus supports strong bones and can help reduce the risk of osteoporosis. Its anti-inflammatory properties also benefit joint health, easing the symptoms of arthritis and other inflammatory conditions.

HYDRATED!!!!!!

After you have soaked overnight rinse and drain sea moss, add equal parts water and sea moss and blend until smooth. (Chondrus Crispus is more textured that regular sea moss just fyi). Store in air-tight jar in the fridge overnight and enjoy!!!!!!!!!!!!!

8. Weight Management

Irish Moss is low in calories but high in nutrients, which makes it an ideal addition to a weight management plan. It helps you feel fuller for longer, reducing the urge to snack on unhealthy foods. Additionally, its rich nutrient profile supports a healthy metabolism, helping your body burn calories more efficiently.

9. Cardiovascular Health

Chondrus crispus helps regulate cholesterol levels by reducing LDL (bad cholesterol) and supporting HDL (good cholesterol). Its potassium and magnesium content also help regulate blood pressure, contributing to overall cardiovascular health.

10. Energy and Recovery

The iron in Irish Moss is essential for producing red blood cells and delivering oxygen throughout the body, which helps combat fatigue. It also contains amino acids and minerals that support muscle repair and recovery, making it a great supplement for those with active lifestyles.
