Greetings Seeds!

It is now fall season for us gardeners, homesteaders and farmers and if you live in Zone 8a like me it’s time to start our seedlings! (Going post about my seedling soil mix later)

Georgia gets really hot during the summer season and a lot of growers' crops suffer from heat stress, which can discourage people from growing during the spring/summer.

I personally enjoy the fall crop season!!!! Less pest, better weather, and my favorite of all, I get to grow greens! I have been loving all of my heirloom variety greens, especially the Alabama Blue Collards! Southern Exposure Seed Exchange has been consistent with high germinating heirloom collard greens, mustard greens and my childhood favorite Rutabagas!

Now the top of the season will still be pretty hot here in South Georgia, so I tend to start my seedlings indoors to avoid distressing the plants before their able to grow. Most of my fall crops will consist of Mustard Greens, Collard Greens, Carrots, Beets, Rutabaga, Kale and my other beds that are not being used I will do a cold-hearty cover crop! The cover cropping in my other beds will level out nitrogen levels in my soil and keep it healthy until the next grow season.

My go-to cover crop seed comes from True Leaf Market and its there Austrian Winter Pea! Easy to sew, manages itself and then once the season is over, I have a healthy bed of soil ready for the Spring season. Now that we got that out the way........

WHAT YOU GROWING THIS YEAR SIS?????????

LIKE FR WHAT IS EVERYONE GROWING THIS YEAR??????

????????? No One??? Well, I would like to supply you with a list of veggies and herbs that can be grown during the fall and winter! Be sure to check out heirloom brands for more diversity in your garden this year!

Zone 8a usually has a mild climate, which makes it suitable for planting a variety of crops and plants during the fall season. Here are some options for what you can plant in Zone 8a during the fall:

1. Cool-Season Vegetables:

- Lettuce: Plant lettuce varieties for fresh salads.

- Spinach: Spinach can thrive in cooler temperatures.

- Kale: A hardy leafy green that does well in cooler weather.

- Broccoli: Plant in early fall for a late fall or winter harvest.

- Cauliflower: Similar to broccoli, plant in early fall for a late harvest.

- Cabbage: Various types of cabbage can be planted for fall harvest.

2. Root Vegetables:

- Carrots: Plant in late summer for a fall harvest.

- Radishes: Quick-growing root vegetables that can be harvested in a few weeks.

- Beets: Plant in late summer for fall harvesting.

3. Herbs:

- Many herbs can be planted in the fall to establish roots before winter. Examples include parsley, cilantro, chives, and dill.

4. Garlic and Onions:

- Fall is a great time to plant garlic and onions for a spring harvest.

5. Peas:

- Some pea varieties can be planted in the fall for a spring harvest.

6. Perennial Plants:

- Fall is also a good time to plant perennial flowers, shrubs, and trees. They have a chance to establish their root systems before the harsher conditions of winter.

Remember to consider the specific frost dates in your area and choose varieties that are suited for your climate. Additionally, be prepared to protect your plants from potential frost or colder temperatures as the season progresses. It's a good idea to consult with local gardening resources, such as gardening centers or agricultural extension offices, to get specific recommendations tailored to your region's conditions.

HAPPY GROWING TO YOU ALL!!!!!
